Guide to the Bishop Edward D. Fenwick Records

1823-1832

Only a few documents have survived from Bishop Fenwick. During the administration of Archbishop William H. Elder (1883-1903), it was decided that the newly established archives at Notre Dame University would insure the preservation, organization, and availability of the records. Consequently, most of the records relating to Bishop Fenwick were sent there. Records include correspondence to and from Bishop Fenwick from various people, the faculties granted to Bishop Fenwick upon his installation as bishop, and copies of his last will and testament. The majority of records of Fenwick's tenure as Bishop of Cincinnati are at the University of Notre Dame Archives.
